Water ultrafiltration (UF)

Ultrafiltration is a membrane technique that is widely used in various sectors of the economy, because in addition to removing viruses and bacteria, it separates colloids and particles floating on the surface of the liquid. Ultrafiltration is also a method for removing humic substances which impart a yellowish colour to water and thus deteriorate the quality of water as an industrial raw material. Ultrafiltration is used as a preliminary treatment system upstream of reverse osmosis and in water recovery systems – e.g. in the recovery of water from swimming pool filters or water treatment plants, where large amounts of water with an appropriate degree of purity are used. Ultrafiltration yields very good results sewage treatment.

The ultrafiltration technology is based on appropriately selected screens. Membranes with pores ranging from 1 to 100 nm are used for the process. The effectiveness of separation and screening process of the above-mentioned substances depends directly on the size of these particles, the flow "conditions" and the size of the "pores" of the membrane used, which is why it is so important to perfectly match the particular screen system to each system.
