Optimization of water and sewage management

Water consumption in industry is very high. Without water, many production processes would not be possible. Water is used both in the production of food and beverages, as well as for cooling installations, generating steam, cleaning installations and other purposes. Such a high demand for water more and more often prompts entrepreneurs to develop a plan to optimize the company's water and sewage management.

Restrictive legal regulations force water users and consumers to manage them rationally. Technological water treatment is required before discharge or recycling. In solving these problems, membrane techniques come in handy. It is widely believed that each liquid stream can be separated into pure solvent and highly concentrated suspended or dissolved substances using membrane techniques. There are many solutions on the market for the separation of liquids with the membrane technique.

Microfiltration (MF) belongs to the group of pressure membrane techniques. This means that the driving force in the process is the pressure difference on both sides of the diaphragm. The tasks of this technique include the retention of particles visible to the naked eye, i.e. those that form cloudy suspensions, and the retention of bacteria.

 

Ultrafiltration (UF) is yet another pressure membrane technique. With the use of ultrafiltration membranes, it becomes possible to retain particles of fats and proteins. In addition, the vast majority of viruses in the liquid are stopped. Ultrafiltration is believed to trap particles larger than 0.01 microns.

 

Nanofiltration (NF) is another pressure technique used in liquid treatment processes. Thanks to membranes with a very small pore size and an additional membrane surface charge, nanofiltration is able to retain single multivalent ions (e.g. magnesium, calcium, iron). Pressures of up to 50 bar are used in this membrane technique.

 

Reverse osmosis (RO) The job of reverse osmosis is to retain all particles and molecules except the solvent particles. Pressures in the range 10-150 bar are used in reverse osmosis.

Ultrafiltration is a membrane technique that is widely used in various sectors of the economy, because in addition to removing viruses and
